Run commands and open a terminal
Run a one-off command on a server, or open a root shell in your browser to troubleshoot.
1Run a command
On the server’s page, choose Run a command. It runs as root, one at a time, and times out after the limit shown. The output is stored encrypted and kept for 180 days.
2Look back
Command history on the server’s page lists every command with its status, exit code and output. Run again repeats one, and Export CSV downloads the history.
3Open a terminal
Choose Open terminal for a root shell on the server in your browser. It closes after 10 idle minutes, or 30 minutes at most, and opening and closing it are recorded in the audit log.
4Who can
People who can manage the server can run commands and open a terminal. The terminal needs the server’s host key to be known, so it’s available once the server is set up.
